Proctored Study Session In-Person
What is a Proctored Study Session?
Research supports that focus and attention are skills which can be improved with practice. These proctored study sessions are designed to help you do just that—cultivate effective study habits in a structured, distraction-free environment. By incorporating the Pomodoro technique and the concept of body doubling, the sessions will offer a proven framework for concentration and productivity.
All law students and faculty are welcome. Sessions will be proctored by Professor Parks, Mary Morris, and Jima Fahnbulleh to ensure a supportive and focused atmosphere.
How Will it Work?
Structure: Each study session will be three hours, broken up into increments of 45 minutes of work and 15 minutes of break. The schedule will be as follows:
9:00-9:15 Enter, sign in, turn off devices, and set up
9:15-10:00 Work block
10:00-10:15 Break
10:15-11:00 Work block
11:00-11:15 Break
11:15-12:00 Work Block
Entry and Exit: You must enter the room by 9:00 so that you will be ready to begin your work block at 9:15. If you are late, you will be able to enter during a break period. If you exit the room during a work block, you’ll need to wait until the next break to re-enter. Entry and exit rules will be strictly followed to minimize distractions in the room.
Technology: The following technology rules will be followed:
· Phones must be off or on Do Not Disturb (not vibrate) and must be stored out of sight.
· Computers should not be used for email or messaging; turn off notifications.
· Smart watches and other distracting devices should be removed or on DND.
· You may wear headphones as long as your audio is not audible to others.
Timekeeping: The proctor will keep the official time and will display a countdown timer.
Activity: You may work on anything during the study session, whether reading, writing, outlining, or even working on job application materials. You will need to bring your own items to facilitate your work.
